Letzte Klappe an Jim Jarmuschs Set von “Only Lovers Left Alive”

Auch Jim Jarmusch war von den Dreharbeiten in Deutschland begeistert: “Thanks also to MMC Studios and their excellent facilities here in Köln. And, most personally, I want to thank all the amazing members of our crew and production for all their hard work, their invaluable contributions, and their incredible spirits. I will deeply miss working together with all these truly wonderful collaborators.”

Only Lovers Left Alive - Cologne

If anyone met Tom (Tilda Swinton, Jim Jarmusch, Mia Wasikowska, Anton Yelchin or John Hurt) in Cologne, were they are filming ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ at the moment, let us know…

So far it seems as the German fans won’t get a chance to meet any of them. Seems as they increased the safety measures after Detroit (which is, of course, also good).

Even Tom didn’t tweet that he’s in Cologne so far (like he did while they were filming in Detroit)… which is kinda sad, as it would be great to read some tweets from him about our hometown.

Jim Jarmusch Feature Only Lovers Left Alive Approved for Film Incentives

More information about ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’:

“LANSING – The Michigan Film Office announced today the feature film Only Lovers Left Alive has been approved for a film incentive from the state. Set in Detroit and Tangiers, the project will feature a wide range of Detroit locations and showcase some of Detroit’s influential sounds and diverse musical contributions throughout the soundtrack.

Written and directed by iconic independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, the film stars Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Michael Clayton), Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, War Horse), Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland), John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the Harry Potter series), and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salvation).

“Only Lovers Left Alive provides a compelling canvas to showcase the vibrant landscape and musical heritage of Detroit,” said Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office. “Having Jim Jarmusch, one of the most influential independent filmmakers in the industry today, bring this project to Michigan provides a significant opportunity to raise our profile as a top tier state for filmmaking.”

The project was awarded an incentive of $365,904 on $1,304,605 of projected in-state expenditures. The project expected to hire 82 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of 6 jobs.

“Shooting here has been a great experience,” Jarmusch said. “The city and people of Detroit have a strong an unique spirit, and our local crew has been amazing – creative, hardworking, and very open to our unusual style of filmmaking. I send them my sincere appreciation and respect, as I do to the great city of Detroit.”

Set against the distinctive landscapes of Detroit and Tangiers, an underground musician (Tom Hiddleston), deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover (Tilda Swinton). Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their idyll is soon interrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister (Mia Wasikowska).

Producers are Jeremy Thomas at Recorded Picture Company, and Reinhard Brundig at Pandora Film. International sales are being handled by HanWay Films. Only Lovers Left Alive aims to have its world premiere at a major international film festival in 2013…”

Unsung Films Article about ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’

“When I heard the news that Jim Jarmusch had started work on Only Lovers Left Alive, my first thoughts were on the project’s choice of subject. It would be an understatement to say that a vampire movie wasn’t expected when basing expectations on the director’s previous works. Anyway — putting the initial shock aside — this was an exciting rumour. It’s difficult to build an idea of what Jarmusch will bring to this genre, but it should make a welcome change.

Not much has been leaked thus far. Sparse pieces of information have been thrown around, including a vague premise, the setting, filming locations and cast. Only Lovers is a drama which will circulate around two vampires in love. A film that Jarmusch described as a “crypto-vampire love story”. The story will take place in Detroit, while filming is set to occur throughout Michigan, Germany and Morocco. On receiving information regarding the plot, I ended up concluding that viewers should expect a low-key, photographically rich take on an overused theme. …”

Only Lovers Left Alive shooting to take place in Detroit

Apparently filming Only Lovers Left Alive starts today or tomorrow in Detroit, USA.

Elle UK did an Interview with Tom yesterday at Wimbledon and he said he would fly over to Detroit today to start shooting with Tilda Swinton! :)

Here’ s the interview:

“Actors and entertainers celebrated the opening of the Wimbledon championships on Monday. We caught up with Avenger villain Tom Hiddleston about tennis, superheroes and how to make the perfect Pimm’s cup…

Tom Hiddleston has opinions—opinions about Pimm’s. ‘It has to be made with ginger ale. Controversial, but I think accurate,’ the War Horse and Avengers Assemble star told us in Evian’s suite on the first day of the championships. And furthermore: ‘Cucumber is essential. Slices of cucumber, fresh strawberries, lemon, mint… But if you’ve made fruit salad for breakfast, with bananas and kiwis, maybe don’t throw them in the Pimm’s.’

A lifelong tennis fan, Hiddleston watches Wimbledon championships ‘religiously’ every summer, even waking up early to catch important matches when he was on location in New Mexico for Avengers during last year’s tournament.

‘It made me really homesick. I was in the New Mexico desert, playing superheroes, and suddenly, I was longing for Wimbledon,’ he said. ‘The architecture of my life is that Wimbledon always used to be the herald of the summer, because it was the end of exams and the beginning of the school holidays, and therefore the beginning of fun.’…”
